The Children & Young People Now Awards have become the gold standard for everyone working with children, young people and families.
Now in its fourteenth year, the awards provide a great source of pride and recognition for all those who strive day in, day out, to improve the lives of others. We are incredibly honoured to have been awarded the Arts and Culture award at the Children and Young People Now Awards 2019. The award is given to the initiative that has done the most to inspire children and young people in cultural activities, such as music, dance, drama or the visual arts, especially among disadvantaged groups, and where collaboration is shown between public services, the cultural sector and children and young people
The awards honour all the employers, participants and partners who have been involved in STEP since it started in 2017. We are especially grateful to London Legacy Development Corporation who developed and funded the programme, our founding partners; Bow Arts, London College of Fashion, Sadler’s Wells, Creative Access, and Create Jobs at A New Direction who developed and delivered the programme.
STEP continues to achieve its mission of a creative industry open to everyone. Through STEP we:
- Increase diversity in the creative and cultural sector by providing paid employment opportunities for those currently under-represented in the sector
- Increase participants knowledge and experience to better prepare them for the varied career path many creative professionals experience
- Create a network of employers who are invested in developing the creative workforce of the future
- Support participants to continue working in the sector through paid employment or relevant training
