After finishing my degree in Literature and Creative Writing, I was consumed with the idea that I had to follow a literary path but struggled to find a direction. More and more, I would buy art books and go to museums, but still with the impression that I had to go in a particular direction.
About a year before the pandemic, I became increasingly interested in contemporary black art and the issues surrounding representation in the arts. Once the pandemic hit and after becoming redundant in my hospitality job, I returned to the idea that I should focus on my passion for the arts and began the hunt for a job in curation.
After getting minor roles here and there, the position of Curatorial Intern at the V&A East felt like an excellent opportunity to learn curation from the inside out without having to have a background in Art History. Plus, the STEP programme providing mentorship to guide me early on in my career is truly priceless.
I am excited about learning the skills that will set me up for life, being constantly in a creative environment, and using my creativity daily, providing me with that emotional satisfaction we all crave.
