I am a musician, music writer, and unashamed samba-lover from north London. Following an undergraduate music course at City University I went on to specialise in Afro-Latin music in a masters course at SOAS, achieving a distinction. After a spell teaching guitar and singing in schools, I joined the team at Songlines magazine (a folk and roots publication with a readership of 22,000 worldwide), progressing to the position of assistant editor. I am looking forward to expanding her portfolio of content whilst working with Worldwide FM and London College of Fashion.
I am also a keen cultural programmer, with a series of shows (themes include Afrobeat, Alevi, samba and cumbia) held at Paper Dress Vintage, in Hackney, under my belt. Ever an advocate for the healthy representation of music from other parts of the world, I continue to write journalistically and perform with various samba groups in London. As well as samba, I play my own compositions with my band in London and performs regularly for Sofar Sounds. My latest project is an online magazine platform for women and non-binary people in the arts – watch this space!
