William says…

I graduated BSc Computing and Business Administration in 2017, but I didn’t feel like I could pursue computing as a career. So I started working in music and radio from 20 years old as they were both hobbies of mine, this lead me to music production which in turn lead me to becoming a radio host.

I have thoroughly enjoyed working in music/radio as I have met and worked with many talented people, some of whom have gone onto bigger and better things and I feel this has helped me become a well-rounded person.

I am currently near the end of my traineeship at Worldwide FM. I have always been interested in working in arts & culture sector especially in music & radio although finding a paid role without too much professional experience has been difficult. STEP has been a blessing, I have had a lot of good experiences through it.

Both the teams at Worldwide FM and London College of Fashion have been very welcoming and very supportive toward me learning new skills. For example LCF gave me time to do courses outside of my role and Worldwide has improved my radio production skillset.

Additionally, being paid was also very helpful as I didn’t need to worry about my finances too much and it provided me stability which allowed me to give 100% in these traineeships.

What are you doing next?

I will be continuing at Worldwide FM after the STEP internship is finished.

What was your highlight of the programme?

I have one for each internship; my highlight for London College of Fashion was working the MA20 season which was the anniversary of the post graduate course it was really enjoyable. At Worldwide FM I would say producing the interview with Emma Warren and James in Darkstar.
